Website Hosting Tools
Not started your own webiste yet? Still making your money from the free Web2.0 properties out there? Well that
is just fine, until they change their T's & C's and you find your traffic fall off a cliff. To make sure this
does not happen to you, why not get your own hosting package, and start owning your own domain
names!
Domain Names
In recent years, owning the right domain name has made a lot of people very wealthy. But more
than that, owning your own domain gives you licence todo what ever you want on the internet.
There are literally hundreds of companies offering you the chance to buy your own domains, but I have found that
sticking with one of the most reputable has meant I have complete security when buying a new one.
GoDaddy has consistantly been good to me, not least because of
the amount of promotional offers they seem to have! Discounts of up to 50% for signed up members is not unheard
of, and the purchasing method is extremely efficient.
Like I said, there are many hundreds of places you can buy a domain name from, but GoDaddy has my vote.
Have a look at what they offer here.
Website Hosting
I have tried a couple of different companies in the past. I was unimpressed with their
difficult-to-use interfaces and unnecessarily complicated selection of packages.
I have now settled on HostGator, and have been using them without a hitch for over 2
years. I originally got put off by the name, but please don't let that fool you! I have had about a 99% uptime,
and the virtual help desk is a godsend if I ever need any advice (part-timer and novice that I am!)
There are various packages to chose from as you would expect, but I have settled on a $25 reseller
account that comfortably deals with my dozen or so websites, and I will not have to upgrade any time soon
because of the capacity still left in the tank.
Like with domain names, there are hundreds of companies to chose from, but for uptime, helpfulness and
simplicity I would only recommend HostGator. See their packages here.
